LONDON—HARMAN Professional Solutions, the global leader in audio, lighting, and video and control technologies, today announced a new partnership with Algam Ibérica for audio and video control product distribution in Spain. The distributor will take responsibility for branded products including AMX, JBL Professional, Crown, Soundcraft, BSS, Lexicon, and dbx.

Starting 1 July 2024, the new partnership between Algam Ibérica and HARMAN Professional will represent both companies’ shared mission of providing industry-leading audio solutions to more customers in Spain. Algam Ibérica will have full access to all HARMAN Professional audio and video control brands in the region while also providing product service, including AKG, distributed by Music Distribución.

Algam Ibérica was selected because it possesses the necessary mind-set and drive to deliver premium service and top-tier expertise on HARMAN Professional products to Spanish customers that include audio engineers, production houses, and integrators. This collaboration marks a significant stride in advancing HARMAN's objective to extend its reach to an unprecedented number of customers while delivering unparalleled audio and video control solutions.

JBL Professional Enhances ‘International Four Days Marches Nijmegen’ Celebrations with Immersive Sound Experiences

NIJMEGEN, Netherlands—Michael Story of Story Sound recently powered a full week of live music and celebrations at the International Four Days Marches Nijmegen with eight stages’ worth of JBL Professional live sound reinforcement systems, with additional support from distributor Audio XL.

An annual tradition with roots stretching back to 1909, the International Four Days Marches Nijmegen (Internationale Vierdaagse Afstandsmarsen Nijmegen in Dutch) is the largest multi-day marching event in the world with more than 40,000 participants. Organized in the Dutch city of Nijmegen since 1925, the event draws thousands of participants who walk 25 miles over the course of four days in July. In the evenings after the marches, there are numerous parties with more than 40 pop-up stages showcasing live music and entertainment throughout the city along the path of the march.

In order to provide top-notch audio experiences for the marchers and partygoers while minimizing the SPL impact on the nearby neighborhoods, Dutch live sound provider Story Sound was hired to design and deploy sound systems for several stages during the event. Story Sound owner and operator Michael Story once again supplied multiple capable rigs consisting of JBL Professional VTX Series and VRX Series loudspeakers and subwoofers, delivering immersive and exciting audio quality in the stage area while containing the noise pollution to the satisfaction of the authorities and stage sponsors alike. European HARMAN provider Audio XL also supplied a new JBL SRX Series system for Michael Story to audition in the Dutch live entertainment market.

Story Sound provided eight different stages with systems that delivered exciting audio quality while also meeting the stringent noise control requirements set by authorities and sponsors. Headliner Magazine and Enter Shikari Supercharge the Pioneer Club with HARMAN Professional Solutions

LONDON—HARMAN Professional Solutions recently partnered with Headliner Magazine to replace the legendary Pioneer Club’s aging live sound system with a supercharged JBL Professional SRX Series sound reinforcement system just in time for a headlining performance by Rudimental.

The Pioneer Club is a youth and community venue located in St. Albans just miles from the city of London. In addition to housing a historic music venue and the UK’s oldest indoor skatepark, the Pioneer Club is a registered UK charity, and has a long history of helping young people, stretching back to re-housing displaced children during World War Two. Since opening in the 1960s, the Pioneer Club’s all-ages venue has helped launch the careers of musical icons like the Zombies and Enter Shikari while hosting concerts by Declan McKenna, Bring Me The Horizon, Trash Boat and many more.

In a year that’s seen Enter Shikari reach number one in the UK albums chart, the hometown band saw an opportunity to reinvest in the community that gave them their earliest opportunities. Following discussions with Headliner Magazine CEO Paul Watson, the band ended up partnering with the music and tech media brand to renovate the Pioneer Club’s existing 400-cap music venue as well as converting an underutilized common room into a new 120-cap venue and café bar called the Suet Yard.

In order to support and better accommodate bands on the modern UK touring circuit, Watson and Headliner contacted HARMAN Professional Solutions to replace the Pioneer Club’s aging sound and lighting systems with state-of-the-art solutions from JBL Professional, Crown, AKG and Martin. HARMAN shared Watson’s vision for the Pioneer Club and agreed to become an ally for the venue.

“I was approached by friends in the rock band Enter Shikari about the possibility of teaming up to revitalize the Pioneer Club,” said Watson. “The Pioneer is very close to their hearts. They knew that Headliner is an audio brand that skews music industry and pro AV industries. We had conversations, and then in July we partnered with HARMAN. HARMAN saw and shared our vision. By the end of September, the new installation was complete.”

The Pioneer Club’s new sound system consists of sixteen JBL SRX910 line array speakers, suspended eight per side, with low end provided by two ground-stacked pairs of JBL SRX928S dual subwoofers. Four JBL PRX908 speakers provide flexible onstage monitoring, while two JBL PRX915 speakers are used as DJ monitors. An additional two JBL PRX912 loudspeakers supply delay coverage to the VIP balcony.

Meanwhile at front-of-house, a Soundcraft Vi1000 digital mixing console delivers space saving, world-class audio mixing capability with pristine audio quality, roadworthy reliability and an intuitive user interface for streamlined operation. Onstage, a plethora of AKG microphones ensure every note is captured in painstaking detail, while the addition of a Martin lighting rig heightens each performance with eye-popping visual appeal.

“I come from an audio background myself,” said Watson. “I’ve done live sound,and I’m a studio engineer as well. This JBL rig is a really great sounding rig; it feels very controlled with a very smooth low end. The artists were buzzing about it after the show. The HARMAN package has upped the room’s production value enormously. The previous system was pretty decent, but the SRX rig has certainly supercharged the venue.”

The system had its first outing at an inaugural event headlined by award-winning drum-and-bass group Rudimental on Saturday October 7 with support from 220 Kid and Lo Lauren. The event raised funds for the Pioneer Music Charity and the venue itself.

“Helping to preserve grassroots venues like The Pioneer Club is something we are passionate about,” said the members of Rudimental in a joint statement. “By headlining this fundraiser at The Pioneer Club, we wanted to help raise awareness of the venue, the charity, and all that it is striving to achieve in terms of music education, entertainment, and providing a safe creative place for young people.”

According to Watson, the Pioneer Club’s new HARMAN sound and lighting rig represents just the first phase of Headliner and Enter Shikari’s plans to position the legendary venue at the center of a hub that supports the local music community while generating revenue to sustain the Pioneer charity, which remain the organization’s top priority.

“We have an opportunity to turn what was once an iconic venue back into a great venue,” said Watson. “And this initiative will also help to support key local groups including Services for Young People and the National Autistic Society, all of whom will be able to utilize the space. Then from a core Headliner perspective, we will launch two Academies during Q2; these will be dedicated to music and pro-audio education, to help raise awareness to young people that they can find a route into these industries and build a career for themselves.”

Since installation was completed, the Pioneer Club’s new HARMAN sound and lighting rigs have powered numerous concerts by independent rock bands on the local and touring UK circuits as well as supporting events for high-profile clients such as TikTok and the MOBO Awards.

“It’s easy to forget you’re in a relatively small venue given the importance that’s clearly been given to the overall production,” said Dani Simmonett, United Talent Agency. “The sound is crisp and clear, and acoustics don’t have the issues that many smaller venues have. I’ve had the opportunity of seeing a variety of artists with different setups at The Pioneer Club since the new JBL rig went in, and it’s working extremely well across the board.”

Modest Mouse Revisit “The Lonesome Crowded West” With Help from Soundcraft Audio Mixing Solutions

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. —To ensure straightforward, loud-and-clear live mixes for Modest Mouse’s recent Lonesome Crowded West Tour, FOH Engineer Peter Thompson utilized Soundcraft audio control solutions.

Founded in Issaquah, Washington by singer/guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green and bassist Eric Judy, Modest Mouse is one of the most influential indie rock bands in recent memory. While best known for their crossover hit “Float On,” the band has built a reputation for experimentation and overhauling their sound across every album, evolving from a post-grunge trio of high schoolers to a five-to-seven-piece band of violins, horns and percussionists. For longtime fans, however, the band’s sophomore album The Lonesome Crowded West—a ramshackle collection of songs about the struggle for self-understanding in an increasingly urbanized, consumer-driven and chaotic world—remains their definitive work to this day.

To celebrate the album’s 25th anniversary, Modest Mouse embarked on the Lonesome Crowded West Tour in late 2022. Performing as a four-piece for the first time in over a decade, the band played the 1997 album in its entirety and in order, along with an encore of older fan favorites and rarities including “Dramamine” and “Edit the Sad Parts.” Given the band’s back-to-basics approach compared to their recent tours, the live sound in turn required a simple yet reliable setup to ensure a balanced and impactful mix for every show. To meet these requirements, Thompson enlisted a Soundcraft Vi7000 digital mixing console with a Vi Stagebox and Realtime Rack Core.

“Modest Mouse was a seven-piece during my first run with them last summer,” said Thompson. “This Lonesome Crowded West tour was a four piece and all guitar amps, no digital profilers or anything, so the whole setup was very analog. With that, the only challenge was battling the ambience of the stage, getting the guitars to project and still have room for vocals. I've been using Vi consoles for a long time, since 2007 or so, and I’ve used them with Steely Dan and Bob Seger and several other old-school acts using amps and monitors. So I took it to the front-of-house for this tour because it's my go-to desk.”

Equipped with up to 128 inputs, 32 mono/stereo busses and enhanced 96kHz 40-bit floating point digital audio processing, the Vi7000 was designed to facilitate a straightforward and intuitive live mixing experience. At the heart of the Vi7000 is the Vistronics hybrid interface, which combines the best features of analog hardware and digital software to achieve streamlined controls and unrivaled versatility. Rather than installing physical controls around or adjacent to a digital touchscreen interface, resulting in an unintuitive and awkward workflow, the Vistronics interface places rotary knobs and switches directly onto a touchscreen that displays output monitoring, EQ, sends and more. Depending on the software being used, the graphics behind the analog controls will change to the relevant controls, resulting in an efficient, simplified and more enjoyable user experience.

“The Vi7000 addressed how I like to work,” explained Thompson. “I've done several different kinds of things with the Vi setup and it is so easy, simple and fast. The biggest plus is that it's very quick to navigate. Like when I needed to do quick panning and whatnot for certain songs, I program the pan knob to be right there in front of the faders. The ergonomics of the desk is really nice—and it's not that I don't use other desks as well, but I still keep coming back to the Vi.”

In addition to the Vi7000, the Soundcraft Vi Stagebox provided Thompson with an extra 64 mic/line inputs and 32 analogue line outputs for even greater flexibility and routing options. Thompson also utilized a Soundcraft Realtime Rack Core for access to state-of-the-art effects and plugins by Universal Audio, which the band occasionally required even with their scaled-down setup. Overall, the Lonesome Crowded West Tour was a successful tribute to Modest Mouse’s early days, in large part thanks to the simple but impactful live mixes achieved every night.

“The Realtime Rack is basically integrated into the Vi system, which is great,” added Thompson. “I used it for the Lexicon reverb and some simple compression on the vocals, but I didn't use a heck of a lot of it in this particular run. I used the Realtime Rack a lot with the regular Modest Mouse tour, though, because Isaac would have distortion effects and things like that that aren't built into the Vi. But for the most part, all the parameters like comps, gates and EQ work to the point where I often don't need additional plugins. Everything I need is already built into the desk.”

Sarnsara Learning Center Fosters Collaboration With World-Class AV Systems from HARMAN Professional Solutions

BANGKOK—To provide versatile and intuitive AV technology for a variety of events and scenarios, Mahajak Development recently installed state-of-the-art networked AV systems by HARMAN Professional Solutions at MTLA’s new Sarnsara Learning Center.

Founded in 1951, Muang Thai Life Assurance (MTLA) is a major provider of life insurance with 250 branches across Thailand. In 2020, MTLA constructed Sarnsara Learning Center, a new facility with the aim of creating an ideal learning space and collaborative environment for its associates and clients. Its facilities include a 1,000-seat auditorium, 73 guestrooms and 16 training rooms of various sizes, each accommodating between 20 and 200 people. In 2021, the Inavate APAC Awards honored the facility with the Education Project Award, in recognition of the center’s innovative use of AV technology to promote a positive learning environment.

To ensure that the array of rooms could support a variety of purposes—including seminars, meetings, group discussions, workshops and other activities—MTLA turned to trusted integrator Mahajak Development to equip Sarnsara Learning Center with the latest AV technology and user-friendly audio systems. Mahajak Development selected and installed HARMAN networked audio systems utilizing JBL Professional speakers, Soundcraft mixers and AMX network processors.

Mahajak outfitted the main auditorium with JBL CBT 100 LA-1 column loudspeaker array systems to deliver wide and balanced sound quality in the large space. A Soundcraft Si Expression digital audio console makes it easy to dial in professional quality mixes quickly, even for users with limited audio experience. To ensure excellent sound quality and clarity for a wide variety of applications, Mahajak equipped the meeting spaces and seminar rooms with JBL Control Series 14C/T, 16C/T and 18C/T ceiling loudspeakers, which blend in seamlessly with the ceiling.

Both the auditorium and the largest seminar room feature prominent motorized LED screens for video content. To ensure reliable operation and support for multiple analog and digital formats, Mahajak installed an AMX NX-2200 Netlinx integrated controller, which provides a scalable platform with backward compatibility and extensive network security features. AMX Modero G5 Series touch panels allow users to access that control via a beautiful, single, streamlined interface.

Sarnsara Learning Center reported that they are confident in HARMAN Professional Solutions and they are satisfied with Mahajak’s installation and customer service. They also confirmed that the AV system installed by Mahajak is easy to use.

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam—Phuc Giang recently supplied Xu Restaurant Lounge and Cocktail Bar with a state-of-the-art JBL Professional distributed audio system.

Established in 2005, Xu Restaurant Lounge and Cocktail Bar is an iconic social gathering place located in the center of Ho Chi Minh City. In addition to its menu of top cocktails and cuisine from Vietnam, Xu offers premium musical entertainment in the form of live bands and guest DJs. During the 2020 lockdowns, Xu took the downtime as an opportunity to upgrade their sound system with the help of Phuc Giang. To provide immersive musical experiences for guests, musicians and DJs alike, Phuc Giang installed a state-of-the-art sound system using JBL EON powered speakers and subwoofers.

Staff reported that Xu Restaurant Lounge and Cocktail Bar needed a seamless and easy-to-use sound system that would deliver clear and balanced audio in all areas of the restaurant, and that they are very pleased with the JBL Professional system installed by Phuc Giang.

To deliver impactful stage audio, Phuc Giang installed JBL EON 612 loudspeakers, which boasts a modern two-way multipurpose self-powered design. BANGKOK—To ensure a premium guest experience with crystal-clear audio, professional lighting and sound for events, seamless video connectivity for meetings and a comprehensive central control system, Country Group Development collaborated with Mahajak Development to equip its Capella Bangkok hotel with a suite of HARMAN Professional networked AV, lighting and control solutions.

Capella Bangkok is a five-star hotel situated on a 13.8-acre lot overlooking the Chao Phraya River. In addition to its 101 lavishly-appointed guest rooms, suites and luxury villas, the hotel features three restaurants, a tearoom, a greenhouse, a grand ballroom and four multipurpose “atelier” specialty function rooms.

“We were responsible for the audio, visual, lighting and control systems design for the ballroom, specialty function rooms and four areas of the background music system,” said Eric Wong, AV Consultant of Katakan Consulting Co., Ltd., as reported by Mahajak. “The client wanted a versatile system capable of delivering sharp, clear sound without distortion for a variety of functions like seminars, conferences and other events. They also requested a high-resolution video system.”

Mahajak provided background music systems for the lobby, lounge, restaurant, pool, spa and fitness areas, as well as a public announcement system capable of broadcasting to every floor from a single control room. In the main lobby and corridors, JBL Control 14CT and Control 47CT ceiling speakers provide full-range sound while blending into the architecture seamlessly. In areas with high ceilings, Mahajak selected JBL Control 226CT, 45C/T and 19CST in-ceiling loudspeakers for greater coverage. Weather-resistant JBL Control 88M and Control 29-1AV outdoor loudspeakers cover the garden area, while MS610 waterproof marine loudspeakers provide audio for the spa area.

To meet the needs of a variety of events from weddings to business meetings, Mahajak equipped the ballroom and specialty function rooms with JBL Control 16CT, 45CT, 226C/T, 19CST and 328C in-ceiling loudspeakers. JBL EON612 self-powered loudspeakers with PRX818LF low-frequency subwoofer systems provide additional sound reinforcement for larger events. Mahajak selected Crown CDi 2|300, XTi 6002, CT 8150 and XFMR-8 amplifiers to power the speakers, as well as a Soundcraft LX7ii analog mixing console for uncompromising sound and reliable performance. To provide professional-quality lighting for the stage area, Mahajak hung Martin RUSH PAR 2 RGBW Zoom fixtures from a ceiling truss, using a Martin Ether2DMX8 router to send DMX control signals to the fixtures.

To give staff comprehensive control over the audio and lighting systems, Mahajak equipped the hotel’s control center with a range of HARMAN control solutions and installed additional control panels throughout the facility for on-site adjustments. An AMX NX-3200 integrated controller with an MXD-1001-L touch panel provides comprehensive routing for AV signals throughout the facility, while the AMX TPC-IPAD app provides remote control capabilities via Apple iPad. A BSS BLU-100 Signal Processor in the control center provides signal distribution to each floor’s audio system via BLU Link digital audio networking, while BSS BLU-10 and EC-4BV wall-mounted controllers allow staff to easily adjust volume and configure audio zones remotely. Crown CDi 4|300 amplifiers power each floor’s speakers and a Soundcraft LX7ii analog mixing console provides advanced mixing capabilities.

Warstic Bat Company Enhances Flagship Store and Headquarters with JBL Professional and Crown Audio

DALLAS—Baseball bat company Warstic Sports, Inc. recently opened its state-of-the-art headquarters and retail space in Dallas, which features a comprehensive networked audio system from HARMAN Professional Solutions.

Founded by former baseball player and entrepreneur Ben Jenkins in 2011, Warstic specializes in state-of-the-art metal bats and customizable wood bats, along with batting gloves, fielding gloves and other baseball and softball accessories. In 2016, four-time All-Star second baseman Ian Kinsler and musician Jack White became co-owners alongside Jenkins, and in November 2021 the company officially opened its flagship store and headquarters in Dallas. In addition to a retail space and batting cage area, the facility also features a cafe, a conference space known as the War Room, and a live performance space in the basement. To meet Warstic’s current needs and anticipate future plans for the space, HARMAN Professional Solutions provided design assistance and installation guidance for the highly versatile audio system featuring JBL Professional, Crown, BSS and Soundcraft solutions.

“The building itself is not only our central office but also a retail store, batting cage, speaking and event center, factory, coffee shop and a place for live music,” said Christine Edgington, President, Warstic Sports, Inc. “There are so many components packed into our 10k foot space. We started the process with a detailed explanation of how we would be utilizing all of the different spaces, and HARMAN matched our needs with their extensive list of products.”

“Each space had its own individual needs as far as audio was concerned,” added Nick Mourn, Production Application Support Specialist, HARMAN Professional Solutions. “What made this installation unique was that Warstic wanted each space to share the same audio for things like background music, as well as the option for each space to have its own audio source. There’s a considerable amount of flexibility in the design so that as time goes on, the company will have an easier time launching future plans and projects. The retail space has a big projection screen, for example, and the plan is to eventually be able to play things on the screen and have the video’s sound run through the audio system just within the retail space. So this design was all about maximum flexibility without making it too complex.”

The retail space features JBL Control 65 P/T compact full-range pendant speakers with Radiation Boundary Integration technology, ensuring immersive background music, legible communications and wide coverage throughout the spaces. A Crown DCi 4|600N amplifier with BLU link and DriveCore technology provides power to the Control 65 speakers in the retail space, cafe and War Room.

The batting cage space required a more dexterous audio design to both maintain audible sound during batting sessions and provide full-range live sound for acoustic shows, events and classes planned for the space. The area consists of JBL AM7212/95 two-way loudspeakers, featuring a rotatable horn and waveguide for versatile placement and coverage, as well as JBL Control 31 two-way monitor speakers for additional monitoring during shows or outdoor events. A Crown DCi 2|1250N amplifier powers the speakers, and a Soundcraft Ui24R digital mixer offers simple wireless audio control for Warstic staff.

“The AM7212/95 is a higher-output speaker compared to the pendant style used in the other spaces,” added Mourn. “The reason behind this is not only for music playback purposes, but also when they start to do batting workshops and even small concerts in that space, the speakers can operate as a true sound reinforcement system.”

The basement is an intimate, speakeasy-style live music area similar to the stages found in Jack White’s Third Man Records locations in Nashville, Detroit and London, all of which feature HARMAN audio systems. This space features JBL AM7215/26 high-power loudspeakers and ASB6128 high-power subwoofers for impactful dynamics and complete coverage for the entire audience. Additionally, JBL SRX812P self-powered speakers and SRX818SP subwoofers offer pristine and concentrated onstage monitoring, and both can also be used as a portable sound system for pop-up or outdoor events.

“We wanted the equipment in the stage area to make a statement,,” said Edgington. “The JBL speakers provide massive sound that explodes off the stage and looks great while doing so. Across the board, the sound quality is beyond our wildest expectations in every corner of the building.”

For the stage’s backend, a Crown DCi 4|1250ND amplifier provides ample power and a Soundcraft Vi1000 digital mixing console with a Soundcraft Vi Stagebox allows for easy and accurate sound mixing across more than 100 available inputs. Finally, JBL Control 65 P/T speakers powered by a Crown DCi 2|600N provide background audio for the basement.

For the entire facility, a BSS BLU-101 signal processor ensures high-bandwidth processing and low-latency audio. BSS BLU-BIB input expanders in each area also allow for individual inputs in any part of the facility for events or live shows. Finally, BSS EC-8BV wall-mount controllers in each area provide easy-to-use and responsive audio and input control, which in turn allows for each area to operate and play different audio independently from one another.

Warstic celebrated its opening with a surprise performance by Jack White, and the cutting-edge audio system created an inviting and engaging experience for new visitors and customers.

“It was a very exciting night; Jack and the band played a great set and we got a lot of compliments on how good it sounded, especially given that the space is extremely small,” said Mourn. “We look forward to seeing where Warstic takes this system from here.”

ULSAN, South Korea—To outfit the Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium with the latest in sound system technology, TechDataPS Co. Ltd. selected and installed a range of dynamic HARMAN Professional audio solutions.

Built to host the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium is a 43,544-seat venue at the heart of the Ulsan Sports Park. With three stories and two basement floors, the stadium features a roof covering 87% of the four-sided stands supported by steel trusses designed to emulate the whale skeleton found in the hemisphere petroglyphs at Daegok-ri, Ulju. Additional pillars allude to the Silla Gold Crown, which inspired the stadium’s nickname, “Big Crown.”

Ltd. reported that the client requested a comprehensive revamp of the stadium’s 20-year-old audio system, but the venue’s unique structure left the installation team with limited placement options. NAKHON RATCHASIMA, Thailand—To provide spectators at the Nakhon Ratchasima Sports Complex an immersive and exciting entertainment experience, Mahajak Development Co., Ltd. installed a range of cutting-edge HARMAN Professional audio solutions.

Home to the Nakhonratchasima Mazda Football Club, the Nakhon Ratchasima Sports Complex is the fourth biggest stadium in Thailand and hosted the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in 2007. That same year, King Rama IX bestowed the complex’s name during an overlap between the SEA Games and the king’s birthday. The stadium area comprises the Nakhon Ratchasima FC football field, which is surrounded by a grandstand with a single roof on one side. The facility currently has a seating capacity of 25,000, but will be upgraded to 45,000 in the future.

Mahajak Development Co., Ltd. reported that the complex’s organizers requested a new high-output audio system capable of providing clear, intelligible sound with reduced reverberation during games and events. The main challenge was that the audio system needed to be installed on the roof, which only covered one side of the complex, but also had to deliver sound coverage to every seat in the stadium. To create modern and cutting-edge meeting spaces for Srisawad Power’s clients and staff at their headquarters’ multipurpose hall on the ground floor, the Mahajak team installed JBL Control 25-1 background speakers and 16C/T ceiling speakers for wide coverage and consistent sound dispersion. A Crown CDi 4|300 amplifier provides efficient and reliable power for the speakers, and the Soundcraft Signature 16 audio mixer with BSS BLU-3 and BLU-50 controllers offers intuitive and responsive audio control for the company’s staff.

In the seminar room on the third floor, JBL CBT 70J-1 and CBT 70JE line array column speakers, Control 19CS ceiling speakers and LSR305 two-way powered studio monitors offer wide coverage, intelligible output and consistent dynamics throughout the entire space. A Crown XLi 1500 amplifier and Soundcraft Signature 22 audio mixer provide the system with a user-friendly and streamlined backend. To provide staff with simple control over the AV system, the Mahajak team installed an AMX NX-2200 integrated controller, AMX MST-431 wall-mounted touch panels, and an AMX PS-POE-AF-TC PoE injector, as well as a dbx 1260m digital zone processor and dbx ZC-FIRE Fire Safety Interface.

Finally, the sixth-floor board room features JBL Control 25-1 background speakers powered by a Crown XLi 800 amplifier. Additionally, an AMX MCP108 AV control system provides staff with easy controls for facilitating presentations, videos and more.

Located in London’s Soho district, the new Third Man Records store is the label’s third location and its first international storefront. Downstairs from the main store area, The Blue Basement is a live music venue designed for intimate and exciting shows featuring local and international artists. Label founder and musician Jack White is a well-known audiophile and personally designed the store’s audio systems to meet his high standards. White selected equipment from HARMAN Professional Solutions to deliver high-fidelity background music in the store area and impactful live sound for The Blue Basement.

Fans lined up early on the morning of September 25, 2021, for the London store’s grand opening to purchase exclusive in-store records by Paul Weller of the Jam, David Ruffin, the Jesus & Mary Chain and other beloved British artists. Later in the day, White played a surprise show in The Blue Basement as well as a rooftop set near the storefront. In addition to a large collection of new releases, vintage reissues and rarities, the store also includes oddities like a music-making phone booth, a token-operated vinyl recording station, and a book vending machine.

The upstairs store area features a background music system of JBL AC16 compact loudspeakers and ASB6112 subwoofers, which brings Third Man’s eclectic music roster to life with crystal-clear sound. Crown DCi 8|600DA amplifiers with Dante Networked Audio and DriveCore technology bring exceptional power to the speaker system, and BSS Soundweb Contrio controllers provide staff with intuitive, easy-to-use controls.

Downstairs in The Blue Basement, the stage area features JBL AM7215/95 high-power loudspeakers, which provide audiences with powerful yet detailed sound. AC18 and AC16 loudspeakers are mounted in delayed positions around the venue to ensure vocals sound clear and intelligible for each member of the audience. For bigger, high-capacity shows, like White’s inaugural set, the room also has optional JBL ASB6115 subwoofers for extra low end and impact. The Soundcraft Vi1000 digital mixing console provides intuitive controls for live sound, and both the upstairs and downstairs audio systems implement BSS signal processors for optimal sound distribution.

One of Thailand’s top media businesses, RS Public Company Limited has had a significant influence on Thai entertainment culture since 1982. When hosting concerts, radio shows, television events and more, the company uses the 480-square meter Rose Hall located at its headquarters. To accommodate the needs of modern productions, the company requested a flexible, cutting-edge audio system that could easily adapt to a myriad of events.

With an improved AutoEQ algorithm and enhanced feedback elimination, the VENU360 provides lightning-fast and consistently high-quality processing power. Finally, the Soundcraft Si Impact 40-input Digital Mixing Console offers pinpoint control and remote mixing via the Soundcraft ViSi Remote iPad App for quick and simple audio programming. Lido Connect Transforms Historic Bangkok Theater Into a Multipurpose Venue With HARMAN Professional Solutions

BANGKOK—Mahajak Development Co. recently outfitted the Lido Connect entertainment complex with state-of-the-art HARMAN audio solutions to deliver high-quality sound and flexibility for cinema screenings, live music, performing arts and other events.

Lido Connect is a multipurpose entertainment and retail venue located in the former Lido Multiplex Movie Theater in Bangkok’s Siam Square. After the 50-year-old multiplex closed in 2018, the building underwent extensive renovations to transform it into a cultural hub for moviegoers, music fans, artists and shoppers. As part of the renovations, the former “Lido 1” theater remained a screening room but received major upgrades, while “Lido 2” and “Lido 3” became a live music venue and a small black box theater, respectively.

To provide pristine sound for movies, concerts and other events, each of these spaces required new, state-of-the-art sound systems. To execute their client’s vision, Mahajak Development Co. equipped Lido Connect with a range of JBL Professional, Crown, Soundcraft, BSS and dbx audio solutions.

“The client wanted to enliven the space with immersive, hi-tech audio systems to deliver pristine sound quality while ensuring a smooth listening experience,” said Pongsakorn Kanchanachayphoom, Project Director, Mahajak Development Co., Ltd. “To support the varied range of events to be held at the venue, we carefully selected HARMAN fixtures that reproduce speech, music and other sound effects with finest detail and fullest dynamics.”

To deliver cinema-quality sound in the renovated Lido 1 theater, the Mahajak team deployed JBL AC599 two-way loudspeakers, 9320 cinema surround speakers and high-powered ASH6118 subwoofers to deliver 7.1 surround sound with extended bass response. Crown XTi 2002, XTi 4002 and XTi 6002 amplifiers power the system, while a BSS BLU-100 signal processor provides flexible routing via a high-bandwidth networked audio system. Lastly, a JBL CPi2000 cinema processor offers volume control, signal processing, room EQ tuning and system fault detection for the 7.1 system. For occasional live events, Mahajak also outfitted Lido 1 with a Soundcraft Mini Stagebox 32i, as well as dbx DI4 and DB10V direct boxes.

To provide high-impact sound reinforcement for concerts on the Lido 2 stage, Mahajak selected JBL SRX835P and SRX815P loudspeakers supplemented by SRX828SP subwoofers. JBL PRX815W loudspeakers serve as stage monitors, providing accurate sound for performers onstage. Mahajak also equipped Lido 2 with a Soundcraft Si Impact digital mixer, featuring scene presets for easy setup and remote control via tablet, to provide staff with flexible mixing capabilities. Like Lido 1, Mahajak equipped Lido 2 with a Soundcraft Mini Stagebox, dbx Di4 and DB10V direct boxes and a BSS BLU-100 signal processor for maximum input density and routing flexibility.

Lido 3, the converted black box theater, required a more stripped-down audio system to provide pristine sound for small-scale live art performances. For this purpose, Mahajak selected JBL PRX815W portable powered loudspeakers, which allows staff to easily reconfigure the space for different applications. PRX818XLFW powered subwoofers provide low-end extension for full-range sound. Both models feature WiFi connectivity for convenient control and easy reconfigurability.

Lido Connect’s management reported that they requested best-in-class cinema technology and believe that the new HARMAN systems have helped them achieve that aim. They added that they were delighted with the performance of the HARMAN solutions as well as the service offered by Mahajak.

Historic Reduta Theatre Expands Its Rich Performance Legacy With HARMAN Professional Solutions

BRNO, Czech Republic—AudioMaster CZ recently upgraded the historic Reduta Theatre with a Soundcraft Vi2000 digital mixing console to complement the existing Vi3000 mixing system.

Originally constructed during the Renaissance, the Reduta Theatre is the oldest theater building in Central Europe and has continuously hosted concerts and productions since 1620. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Béla Bartók and Thomas Adès are just a few names in the rich history of concerts that have been performed in the Reduta Theatre. In addition to dramatic performances and concerts ranging from jazz and classical to modern pop and rock, the Reduta Theatre hosts a wide range of events, such as TEDx conferences, Opera Europa conventions and corporate events.

In 2016, the Reduta Theatre found itself in need of a new front-of-house console literally overnight when their previous analog console caught on fire in the middle of a show. In order to replace the console in time for the next performance, Director of Stage Operations Jan Vrbka and the theater’s two audio engineers—Jirka Pochvalovsky and Standa Mitana—tested a Soundcraft Vi3000 digital mixing system against two consoles from other brands. The engineers ultimately selected the Soundcraft Vi3000 console for its user-friendly mixing interface and maneuverability.

“The main purpose was to create a good working environment for staff and guest sound engineers working in our building,” related Vrbka. “On the day that the Vi3000 was installed, our engineer Standa Mitana was able to mix that evening’s performance with no issues, despite having limited experience with digital consoles. It is sometimes said that the Vi is a console for roadies. To me, that means it is easy to learn to work on for sound engineers regardless of their console of choice. This comes in handy when other theater companies are performing at our venue with their own staff.”

When funding made it possible for the Reduta Theatre to purchase a second digital console, they quickly elected to expand their Soundcraft Vi ecosystem with a Vi2000 digital console supplied by AudioMaster CZ. Reduta Theatre’s Vi2000 console enables the staff to utilize the second mixing desk in a variety of configurations, including as a backup for the main Vi3000 FOH console, onstage as a monitor console in conjunction with the Vi3000, as a remote workstation closer to the stage during rehearsals, and as a portable console for events outside the building. The staff also installed a Soundcraft Vi Stagebox to ensure maximum flexibility for different scenarios.

“It’s important to select products with high operational stability and good support that allow future expansion of the system,” continued Vrbka. “All components are compatible with each other, which allows for mutual expansion. The Soundcraft Vi2000 is the perfect compromise between size and performance, which makes it an ideal backup to our main Vi3000 console, but also enables us to use it for applications outside the theater that require a mobile console.”

Soundcraft Vi Series consoles come equipped with advanced capabilities like RealTime Rack plugin support and integrated MADI and Dante connectivity, which give Reduta Theatre engineers a high degree of control over shaping their distinctive mixing styles while ensuring latency-free operation.

“Each of our sound engineers prefer different plugins,” added Vrbka. “Jirka likes the Neve preamps and bx-masterdesk finalizer, while Honza Konzal likes the SSL 4000E channel strip and EMT250 plate reverb. Every engineer on the staff is a big fan of the Lexicon time-based effects. The RealTime Rack plugins allow us to ‘own’ devices that otherwise would be unavailable to us. They take the level up a notch. We also use the Vi3000’s MADI and Dante capabilities to push signals through the system with as little latency as possible.”

In addition to the Soundcraft Vi2000 and Vi3000 consoles, Reduta Theatre also utilizes BSS Soundweb London and BLU Link processors to control the main speaker system, including emergency announcements and other general building communications.

Onstage, the Reduta audio staff uses BSS AR133 direct boxes, along with AKG C451, C414 and C214 microphones. For monitoring, they rely on their trusted JBL EON15 and EON10 powered loudspeakers.

“The Vi Series consoles are simple and intuitive, allowing engineers to devote more time to the sound quality of the production,” concluded Vrbka. “HARMAN staff has always been great at staying in touch and notifying us of important firmware updates for all equipment. And of course, AudioMaster CZ’s technical support has been excellent as always.”
