Held out under the stars at the Cohen Amphitheater on the scenic grounds of the Missouri Botanical Garden, this season’s jazz concert series ran every Wednesday evening from June 7 through July 12 and attracted between five and seven thousand patrons each night. The festival is well known around the St. Louis area for hosting a broad palette of jazz performers, which this year included Johnnie Johnson, the Peter Martin Quartet, Acoustic Internote, Vargas Swing, Jeanne Trevor, and Ahmad Alaadeen.
During the performances, the Soundcraft desk resided under a 12' x 12' tent at the FOH mix position out on the lawn seating area. Casey Hunter, one of Spectra Sound’s co-principals, discusses his choice in utilising the Series TWO. “This being an outdoor festival, we required a mixing console that could be easily carted in and out for each performance, yet we didn’t want its portability to come at a sacrifice for features,” he says. “And, seeing that the Missouri Botanical Garden is a non-profit organisation that puts on this series free to the public thanks to the generous support of the Whitaker Foundation, the console’s price was certainly also a factor. The Series TWO proved to be an outstanding choice for them this season. It’s a wonderful desk with a terrific sounding EQ, and it performed flawlessly throughout the entire festival”.
Next year, the Whitaker Jazz Festival plans to double its schedule of performances and once again utilise the Soundcraft Series TWO console, in addition to a new complement of Crown Macro-Tech amplifiers and Turbosound loudspeakers.
Soundcraft’s Series TWO is a compact and highly cost-effective live sound console aimed at small touring sound companies, theatres, churches and other fixed installations. Available in 24, 32 and 40 mono channel frame sizes with two fully featured stereo line inputs on each model, the Series TWO sports an impressive feature set that includes a three-tier raked frame, integral meterbridge, four-band channel EQ with two sweepable mids, eight mono Auxes, eight Group busses, four stereo returns, Direct Outs, an 11x2 Matrix, MIDI Mute system with 128 MIDI-controllable Mute snapshots, and much more.
Soundcraft, a leading British manufacturer of high-end mixing consoles serving live, broadcast, theatre and recording markets, is distributed in the US by Harman Pro North America, a subsidiary of Harman International.
