--The highly-acclaimed and successful Soundcraft GB Series has gained a new member, the Soundcraft GB2.

Available in frame sizes from 16 to 32 channels, each with two full-function stereo channels, the GB2 is designed for smaller installations in churches and performance venues, or for small touring sound systems. Four group busses are configured as two stereo subgroups for easy control, along with 6 auxiliary sends.

As always with Soundcraft consoles, emphasis has been placed on operational simplicity and the highest possible audio performance. The Soundcraft GB2 inherits both the GB30 Mic preamplifier and GB30 Equaliser designs from the GB4 and GB8, while the layout is clear and well-legended for clarity.

Uniquely perhaps, the stereo subgroup operation is simplified by the addition of WIDTH controls, which variably adjust the stereo image of the group sent to the main stereo mix from full stereo separation to full mono.

On the stereo inputs, connectors are provided for both Mic and Line inputs. With Mic signals routed to the local channel, the Line inputs are available as stereo returns to the main mix bus, while when Line is selected to the local channel, the Mic inputs are overridden and the returns are inactive.

The console also features an output matrix with six feeds to two outputs, being fed from the 4 group (2 stereo) busses and main Left and Right outputs.

Although largely conventional in layout, the GB2 has the same unique mechanical features as its brothers. The rugged steel chassis has a sloping rear connector panel so that it is easier to configure from the front of the desk, while the integral power supply has a link option for an external back-up PSU.

The whole GB Series carries the high quality hallmark with which Soundcraft is synonymous, with engineering and design as you’d expect from this high-end manufacturer. Careful attention has been given to the mechanical construction, to ensure reliability and ruggedness under strenuous conditions, with all input modules being constructed with individual vertically-mounted pcb’s, fitted to the steel chassis front panel with individually-nutted potentiometers.

The GB Series also shares the stylish looks of the professional range including the MH4, MH3, MH2 and LX7ii consoles, continuing a strong family look and feel across the range.
