--The first Soundcraft Vi6 digital mixing console has arrived in Greece, supplied by Bon Studios to the PA company Manos Backline Services, owned by Manos and Stamos Vasilakis.

This is a significant move by Manos Backline Services, which specialises in renting musical instruments. The company has been investing in high-quality professional audio for rental to artists and other PA companies, and, encouraged by the enthusiasm of Soundcraft's distributor in Greece — Bon Studios — has taken the decision to add the Vi6 to its inventory.

Within weeks of its arrival, the console had been used for both front-of-house and monitoring applications. The first deployment of the desk was at the Underworld club in Athens, where it was used at front-of-house for a concert by the band Stampin' Ground. Soon after, the Vi6 was taken to Thessaloniki, where, at a venue called Fix, it was used by the band Sweet Gang to handle all its in-ear monitoring mixes. Fix's sound engineer M. Sioutis was able to start mixing within seconds of arriving in front of the console; "it proves that the Vi6 is not only easy to set up but also easy to use," confirms Stamos Vasilakis.

Manos Backline Services is about to move into large new premises, and plans to create a state-of-the-art rehearsal studio there. "To consolidate a product like this in the Greek market, the console has to be constantly demonstrated so that the sound engineers can become familiar with it and get it onto their concert riders," says Manos Vasilakis. "Wouldn't it be great to use a Vi6 in our new rehearsal studio so that every artist can appreciate the great sound and the settings stored in the console?"

Eugenios Broumedes, of Bon Studio confirms that a second Vi6 sale in Greece has already been made to the company NET AUDIO, reflecting early acceptance of the technology and also the great versatility of the console, which can cover live shows, P.A., and permanent installation in theatres, multipurpose venues, night clubs, and exhibition halls.

"The design collaboration of four major pro-audio companies (Soundcraft, Studer, Lexicon and BSS Audio) gives the Vi6 a lot of kudos," says Broumedes. "The desk is manufactured in England, with all of Soundcraft's technical know-how and experience, and it also has the strategic advantage of integrated software systems from Studer. We see one of the most important benefits is the linking feature, between two desks for FOH. and Stage use. For applications which have a considerable distance between the console and the stage box, there is the choice of linking with CAT5 or with fibre optics."
