Codex Makes First Investment In Soundcraft Vi6

--Luxembourg-based Codex Productions, a full service provider in the event business, have purchased their first Soundcraft Vi6 to add to an impressive inventory of sound, lighting, video and staging equipment.

Founded in the year 2000 the company runs a dry hire department and production service as well as a sales operation for AV equipment. With a staff of 30 (plus 30 multi-lingual freelance technicians) Codex provides equipment for almost every market — including festivals and concerts, exhibitions, product presentations, fashion shows and corporate events — and works frequently in France and Germany as well as Belgium.

Codex’s Patrick Risch states that having operated small Soundcraft desks, there were obvious reasons for investing in the company’s digital flagship. “The market is inundated with standard, older digital consoles which were deflating rental prices; we needed something new and something better.”

He says they were convinced by the Vi6 pedigree “the second we saw it and touched it” at this year’s Pro Light+Sound in Frankfurt. The console comfortably met the production company’s requirement for a desk with more than 48-in/12 -out channels, with proven rider acknowledgment and with a digital core system.

“The product is easy to use, which is important if you want to rent it out as a FOH desk on a festival,” states Patrick.

Audio XL, the Benelux distributor for Soundcraft, gave them a two-week loan of their demo desk — and the Vi6 went straight out on a corporate event followed by a festival, with seven cover bands. “This gave us the opportunity to test the desk on live venues, and we were immediately convinced; our technicians and artists were amazed just how easy it was to operate and quick to learn.”

The company’s head of sound, Peter Weyrich notes that apart from ease of use, “the Vi6 is very intuitive with fast access; the concept with the touch screens and Vistonics interface has been well thought out.”

This is Codex Productions’ first entry into Soundcraft’s digital world — but it won’t be their last acquisition. “Alain Boone and his crew at Audio XL have given us all the support we need and we are already discussing the possibility of further investments in both the Vi6 and Vi4,” confirms Patrick Risch.
